Dyson 360 Heurist Review

Third, even some more expensive—£300 and up—robot vacuum cleaners can struggle getting right up against walls and tables and other tight spots cleaned. It’s always worth having a look up against walls after your robot vacuum has completed its job as you may find its size, shape and the layout of the device has meant some pesky mess has been missed. This is a problem that’s sure to be fixed as robovacs get smaller and even more effective. Boosting power over the original by 20%, the 360 Heurist is just about the most powerful vacuum cleaner I’ve used, easily dealing with mess on all surfaces from hard floors to carpet.

Whether it’s worth that much money to pick up a 360 Eye will depend on your commitment to achieving a clean house without being too personally involved in the process. I actually ultimately stopped using my dyson robot vacuum Roomba, which cost considerably less, because it wasn’t really effective enough to deal with the trade-offs. The 360 Eye has been a much more effective cleaning companion over the past couple of weeks.

It turns off the suction and brush bar when it’s driving too and from the base station, and also while it pauses and works out ways around objects. As the 360 Heurist costs £799.99 in the UK, we’d expect the new robot vacuum cleaner to come in at a similar – or slightly higher – price point. In the US, we would anticipate a price point of $1,099.99 or more. 2000Pa has fast become the norm when it comes to the suction power of the best robot vacuums. So, if your budget allows, we’d recommend looking for vacs around this number.

“Engineers are dreadful — they always have better ideas. I don’t mind that — I think it’s quite a good habit.” The point being, he continues, that his company spent a lot of money in 16 years “to make the right product.” The gap sensors that prevent it from taking a tumble down stairs work well, but unlike my Roomba, it doesn’t think the black portions of my area rug are pits into which it might tumble. With the Roomba, I was able to work around the issue by taping pieces of paper over the gap sensors and walling off the open stairwell to the basement with one of its virtual wall emitters. Its smaller footprint makes a difference in its ability to get in and around table and chair legs, and it takes up less space when sat on its dock, which makes it a lot easier to live with in cramped flats and terraces. Taking the bin out and emptying it is quick and easy, but it is a small bin and you might have to empty it mid-run if you have particularly dirty carpet. Of the dozen-plus autonomous floor cleaners we’ve tested to date, it holds its own alongside the best of the best.

Thankfully the S6 MaxV is quick and relatively quiet, although you’ll not want to chat while it’s in the same room. It can cover plenty of ground too and will give an average open plan living room a good clean in just 20 minutes. The product blurb suggests it can detect and avoid objects as small as 5x3cm, so trainers (assuming the laces aren’t trailing), toys, and general clutter can be smoothly navigated. Along with the Auto function, you can manually add boundaries yourself via the app—once a room has been mapped.

Dyson’s design choices have downsides, too; the height of the machine means that it can’t squeeze under couches or low tables to clean those hard-to-reach areas. Roomba’s devices are much shorter, but wider, allowing them to sneak under furniture much more easily. The fix is that you’ll have to move your furniture out-of-the-way once in a while, which ultimately isn’t that bad of a workaround given 360 Eye’s other advantages.
