Roomba Robot Vacuums

The Roomba Open Interface allows programmers and roboticists to create their own enhancements. We’ve tested most of the auto-empty docks out there, including multiple versions from iRobot and Shark, and one each from EcoVacs, Roborock, and a generic-brand dock that came with a generic-brand Roborock knockoff . The Trifo Max worked fine in our tests, nothing impressive or obviously bad. User reviews suggest it gets lost pretty easily, isn’t built to last, and has poor customer service. We haven’t tested Trifo’s other models, but we’d expect similar results. It may end up cleaning more of your home than other bots just because it fits beneath more stuff.

Automatically trap allergens and dander inside the vacuum to stay healthier in your home. Decent suction paired with meticulous object avoidance make the j7+ handy for homes prone to clutter.

A high-efficiency filter will trap allergins as the vacuum is working. Using an array of sensors, Roomba will navigate around your room and avoid furniture, identify high-traffic areas, and will adjust its cleaning pattern over time. With a 90-minute runtime, the vacuum will automatically return to its docking station to recharge. Even inexpensive models have fall-detection sensors that keep them from tumbling down stairs.

The silicone brush eliminates the problem of tangled hair impeding the vacuum’s cleaning. IRobot has done it again, taking the robot vacuum to the next level by creating another model that can empty its own dustbin. A second powerful vacuum in the Roomba s9+’s docking station automatically sucks the dyson robot vacuum dust and debris out of the vacuum when it docks, storing as many as 30 dustbins full of dirt. And it stores it all in a filter bag, so that nothing escapes in your home’s air when you eventually need to change the bag. But as you’ve probably guessed, this one comes with a very high price tag.

Pet hair on carpets wasn’t much of an issue for the Roomba either. This Roomba robot vacuum left about half of the material on the floor during this test. Multiple small tufts of hair remained after vacuuming low-pile carpeting. Medium-pile carpets proved to be the most challenging for the Eufy. Many more and larger clumps of hair stayed behind after the vacuum traveled over this surface. That said, the Roomba S9 Plus removed an average 71% of sand from our medium pile carpet while vacuuming, which is the best result that we’ve seen on this specific test.

The iLife A9 robot vacuum cleans hard floors and low-pile carpet with aplomb, supports app and voice control, and won’t break the bank. After testing dozens and dozens of robot vacuums, we think the name is a bit of a misnomer. A robot vacuum’s ability to pick up dirt pales in comparison to that of a full-sized vacuum and can only really compete over the course of a week.

IRobot has begun to roll out an iRobot Genius 4.0 Home Intelligence software update to Roomba robot vacuum and Braava jet robot mop customers. If you’re a pet owner, a robot vacuum helps get at balls of fur that are everywhere. As a floor maintainer between manual cleanings, they can save a lot of time and energy. To create additional metrics, we tested each against simulated “dust” in the form of sprinkled flour and “crumbs” by way of uncooked rice on hard floors.

We watched it stubbornly try to shove itself into spaces where it obviously couldn’t fit, roughing up some furniture in the process. This would be annoying in a $400 robot, but it’s especially frustrating in a robot bissell crosswave cordless that costs more than our favorite dishwasher. Hooman Shahidi, iRobot’s vice president of product development, told Wirecutter that it’s more difficult to get a D-shaped robot like the Roomba s9 to navigate smoothly.
