If desired, view additional base station information including the number of GPS and GLONASS satellites, location, and altitude. If there is an authentication error, navigate back to the base station settings and confirm your credentials. This indicates that the base station is successfully connected and is actively sending correction signals to the drone. If using D-RTK 2 mobile station, select D-RTK 2 and skip to step 11. If you are using the P4RTK for the first time, open the DJI GS Pro app to ensure RTK is enabled on the drone. When connecting to a base station using NTRIP, the iPad must be connected to the internet for the duration of each flight to maintain RTK connection.
The included box for the fits everything you need to fly the drone. The drone itself is smaller than I expected, and fits rather neatly in its included polystyrene box. The box features a latch to keep it closed, and is intended to safely house and transport the drone. The controls of the Phantom4 do take some practice, but it’s the kind of thing that you’ll learn quicker via muscle memory – if I stopped to think which control would pan vs tilt for example, I got confused. However, if I just embraced the controls and corrected as I flew, I found it much easier. I find it absolutely incredible that something like this is possible at this price.
You can remove the propellers to ease transport, but there is no folding features on this one. DJI has released an update to this great drone, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is updated in mostly the same way that the Mavic Pro Platinum improves over the original Mavic Pro. To be specific, new propellers and updated ESCs create more efficient and quieter flight.
Sensors, Chargers, remote controls, batteries and optional extra accessories. In a rural environment I flew the drone 4,250 feet away from my position before getting any sort of choppiness in the live video feed, at which point I turned it around and brought it home. In a suburban setting, crowded with homes and Wi-Fi signals, the Phantom flew 2,600 feet away from the launch point before the video signal became spotty. Both figures are in line with our Phantom 4 tests—it flew 4,500 feet in a rural test spot and 1,800 feet in suburbia before the video signal began to cut out. The only drone that’s done better in our rural test is DJI’s tiny Mavic Pro, which flew a full mile away from launch without a stutter—I didn’t try to fly it any further than that.
It brings a new, 25MP sensor and 10-bit 4K capture at up to 120p. We’ve dug into a camera with some of the broadest and deepest video feature sets ever. I’ve owned a DJI Phantom 2 Vision, Phantom 3 Pro and now a Phantom 4 Pro+. Very interested in the Autel dual camera unit but haven’t seen a price on the unit to this point.
Plot a course simply by tapping on the screen, granting more than enough time to concentrate on getting the perfect shot. For the most part it works really well and it will likely prevent many accidental collisions. Yes, you can test it by flying it directly at things like fences or buildings or cars or yourself, and it will stop on its own. The might truly be the drone anyone can fly and it is certainly worth the money if you’ve got it.
Phantom 4 Pro has a mechanical shutter – should make still images better. I find it far more likely the cops jammed the control channel causing failure than software auto-crippled the product due to GPS location. DJI drones in no-fly zones don’t fall, they land or return to home.
Drones are amazing pieces of equipment but they race through batteries. In real-world conditions we get around minutes from a Phantom 4 battery, which means you’re going to need multiple if you’re planning a reasonable amount of shooting each day. We find that the sweetspot is 3 batteries as you can fit them easily within the standard Phantom 4 case for easy transportation and it won’t cost you a fortune.
Whilst you’re flying, the DJI Go app puts the Phantom 4’s main functionality only a tap away. It’s not the most user friendly set up, with several buttons taking you to the same menu, but I soon got used to it. The mapping functionality of the Phantom 4 quadcopter is also amazing. I loved the ability to see on a Google map exactly where the drone was located. Selecting a section of your video footage using the DJI Go app is simple and fast.
Additional batteries can certainly improve the ability to map even bigger areas, however in this case the focus was on the quality of acquired data. For a long time, DJI’s Phantom was dji drones lacking autopilot features that almost all other camera drones offered, such as follow mode and smart camera tools. The company did add them in the end, but now it’s running with it.
